Our Mission
About petfoodcal
A free tool that helps dog and cat owners estimate daily food amounts in clear, simple language.
Why we built this tool
Finding reliable feeding guidelines for your dog or cat shouldn't be complicated. We created this tool to solve two main challenges:
- No brand pressure: Many feeding tools are made by companies that sell food. We do not sell food or push a brand.
- Less confusion: Vet-style tools can be hard to understand. We keep the questions practical for everyday pet owners.
Our goal is simple: to bridge this gap by providing easy-to-use, brand-neutral, and accurate meal plans for every dog or cat owner.
Our no-pressure promise
We prioritize your pet's health above all else. Here is our promise to you:
- No food sales: We do not sell pet food or supplements.
- No sponsored shopping links: We do not push specific brands.
- No email needed: You can use the calculator without signing up.
- Clear formulas: We use common feeding ranges and explain the result in plain English.
Whether your pet eats raw meat, cooked recipes, dry kibble, wet food, or a mix of everything, we give you clean, mathematical recommendations tailored to your pet's exact details.
The basic feeding ranges we use
Our calculator implements standard metabolic scaling formulas used by animal nutritionists:
- Puppies & Kittens: 5% to 10% daily intake based on developmental growth brackets
- Adult Dogs: 2.5% daily intake for stable maintenance
- Adult Cats: 3.0% daily intake for stable maintenance
- Seniors: 2.0% daily intake to accommodate slower metabolic rates
- Modifiers: Breed size (dogs only), activity levels, feeding goals, and neutering status
